From my list on 43things:
A couple more of these I've "done", some more will hopefully be achievable in the near future. Number 32 - Get a good job: Well, it might not be fantastic wages at the moment, but my new job in the NHS I believe to be something I'll enjoy and will have good long-term prospects. So I've marked that off with an emphatic Yes! Number 27- Learn basic first aid: Thanks to the hospital induction training course in resus, and having a good read of the Saint John's Ambulance website I feel I'm pretty well competent with basics in first aid, although hopefully I'll have chance to improve my skills and knowledge in the future to a more advanced level as well. Number 41 - Get my drinking under control: Despite the couple of heavy nights recently, I do feel they're becoming fewer and further between, and I have a much reduced compulsion to drink so much. I feel this will be even more so when I'm living on my own again away from my family here.
My revised list: 1/ Say yes more

| Goals Update |
[Apr. 4th, 2007|07:49 pm] |
Added a couple of goals to my [Unknown LJ tag] which I've been working on the past couple of weeks. Firstly, I've decided I really need to lose weight, quite crucial to do so as to get into shape again. I've always said it is easy to lose weight if you want to, so it was time I put my money where my mouth was and went for it. So far I've lost around 3/4 of a stone, starting off at 11st9lbs, and I'm now 10st 13.4lbs. More crucially, I have decreased my body fat percentage from 21.9% at the start, to 20.7%, whilst increasing my muscle percentage from 34.3% to 34.9%. I am beginning to lose my beer belly finally(!), but I've still got some way to go - my next target is 10st 7lbs. There's no ultimate goal, I don't know what my ideal weight would be - I don't want to be skinny by any means, so I will keep this goal until I am happy I'm in good shape. Also, I've added another goal - to do 50 crunches a day, basically to help get into shape. To be honest it's not gone too well, mainly because the last thing I wanted to do when I had tonsillitis is to do exercises, but if I can do at least a few a day it should help tone my body as I lose the fat.
Finally, whilst I do forget to use my inahlers once in a while, I feel my asthma is much better than it was so I will mark the corresponding goal as achieved, though I must keep up with it or I will have to reopen the goal.
So my goal list as of now:
1/ Say yes more
2/ Take up running
3/ Do a skydive
4/ Run a marathon
5/ Have my own dog
6/ See New Order live
7/ Buy a car
8/ Learn the mechanics of a car
9/ Take up Karate
10/ Go to a 2/3 day music festival
11/ Live in a different part of the UK (other than south-west or midlands)

17/ Scuba dive somewhere nice
18/ Go up in a helicopter
19/ Set my parents up for something special, for all they've done for me at uni

| Lunar Eclipse |
[Mar. 4th, 2007|04:46 pm] |
Forgot to say in my last couple of entries - I finally achieved my goal of getting round to seeing a lunar eclipse! Despite being out in town last night I still found the time to look out on it. And it was pretty spectacular, there wasn't any cloud around at all, which for South-West UK in March is quite something! So that's another goal marked off on my list of goals. Also marked off number 31, as I had my first interview the other day.
1/ Say yes more
2/ Take up running
3/ Do a skydive

| Semi-successful day |
[Jan. 26th, 2007|07:42 pm] |
I didn't really get to sleep very well last night after all - I was still awake at gone 3am, but think I fell asleep soon after. However I still managed to get up on my alarm this morning, and made my way into town.
Not surprisingly the bus fair is up again, I'm sure it seems to rise by 10p everytime I catch one of the damn things! But couldn't really be arsed with walking in, so still caught it both there and back.
Sorted out my bus ticket to London for the Air Traffic Control tests a week Monday, transferred some money between my accounts, and then bought a diary from Smiths'. Thought it's about time I decided to time manage my life a bit, to make best use of my time that otherwise ends up being spent busy doing nothing. I've added it to my list of goals on 43things too, so hopefully it's something I can make a good habit of.
Oh, and I've done another 20 minutes today of exercising on my mum's step machine thing too. There's hope for me yet! |

| New "goals" and stuff |
[Dec. 22nd, 2006|07:26 pm] |
Recently a found a site listing all the cities in the UK, and have created these into a list on 43things (well, English cities only). I've so far been to fifteen of the fifty, which isn't too bad, but seeing as I'm not very well travelled it would be cool to see a few more of these. Some of them, such as Southampton, I have travelled through, but I won't really count those.
When it came to ringing up about the Mazda, it had been de-listed from the autotrader website, so it had obviously gone and not worth my while. There's nothing else suitable in the papers today or on the websites, so it looks like the driving will have to wait til the new year. |

| Goals |
[Dec. 6th, 2006|11:09 pm] |
Ok, having been busy over the past couple of months, I've managed to complete two more of the items on my "to do" list.
I now have my passport, it arrived soon after I sent off for it. I can now travel wherever, whenever I please, once I have the money to do so!
I never got to see Adam over the summer, but I did get back into contact him, and I am in good contact and have seen both Lee and Kathryn, so I'm going to mark number twenty-four as done.
Many others I'm much nearer to achieving now too. I've been saving up for a car, and am looking at the moment for a good quality Celica if I can get one within my current budget. Similarly, I've been looking up a little on car mechanics, though what I really want to do is get one of the car manuals and read it through. I've also applied for jobs, but am yet to make an interview...
Additionally, I have modified one and added another to my list. Andrew returns from Germany in just over a week's time, so I'm not going to be able to see him over there before then. However, he is going to live in America from January, for a couple of years to start with. So I'll change the task to visit him in the States, I'd love to go there sometime. The one I'm adding is to control my drinking, because it's been a little out of hand recently. Mainly, I just want to avoid being hopelessly drunk that I don't know what I'm doing and have no recollection in the morning. Last few nights out I've drank less, and even my nights in, and I've been better for it. Hopefully that can become habit.
My list now:
1/ Say yes more
2/ Take up running
3/ Do a skydive
4/ Run a marathon
5/ Have my own dog
6/ See New Order live
7/ Buy a car
8/ Learn the mechanics of a car
9/ Take up Karate

| Organised my finances - goals list update |
[Oct. 1st, 2006|09:31 pm] |
Well, last week I went about collecting together all the bank statements I have in various locations throughout my house, and putting them in order, and then all the other crap that I don't really need I shredded. Thought it was about time I took control over my money, I never know how much is in my account these days. Paid off my credit card on Friday, well most of it at least anyway, which makes my financial position a lot better, and will stop me shelling out so much on its interest. I've vowed now to cut down on my spending, particularly on alcohol and nights out, as that's where so much of it tends to go. So hopefully it means I can save up a lot quicker now for the things I really want. To all intents and purposes this one is done.
In regards to the other goals on my list, I've been to see the doctor over my asthma so I could get a prescription of inhalers. I picked them up then the next day, and am trying to get into the habit of taking my preventer inhaler regularly, which is where I've been slipping up with before. I'll see how that goes over the next few weeks before I mark this one as done though.
I've started filling out my passport form too, my Mum's already got me my birth certificate sent on from Bristol. Will get my photo done, and then hopefully get this all sent off this week.
So with my list so far, that's another one down, 38 still to go:
1/ Say yes more
2/ Take up running
3/ Do a skydive
4/ Run a marathon
5/ Have my own dog
6/ See New Order live
7/ Buy a car
8/ Learn the mechanics of a car
9/ Take up Karate
10/ Go to a 2/3 day music festival

15/ See the northern lights
16/ See an FA cup final
17/ Scuba dive somewhere nice
18/ Go up in a helicopter
19/ Set my parents up for something special, for all they've done for me at uni
20/ Get my asthma under control
21/ Be more spontaneous and open to new things

| Goals - Progress |
[Aug. 17th, 2006|10:23 pm] |
Umm, done ok, but could do better. I did take up running when I was up in Leam, but then I got ill and then obviously I came back to Weston, and if I'm honest I don't much fancy running about this local area. Think I may have to put that one on hold til I get to move out again. As for saying yes more, I've probably been saying it less, but the I've agreed to do things that I didn't really much fancy doing. I'll leave those as still to do.
I'm getting closer now to buying a car, now I'm earning, hopefully I'll be driving again before christmas! As for the spontanaiety, I've done some pretty spontaneous things since - including the night out with Neil when we went for a drink down the pub, and ended up going into town, to a place we'd never normally go, drinking drinks we'd never heard of. It was great fun! And a few times since our night down the pub has turned into a night out - come to think of it I can't think when we last just had a night down the pub! I'll give it a little longer to run though. Likewise, I've got into contact with Kathryn, Adam and Lee, I've seen two of them several times, and Adam I hope to see this week. So I'll mark that as done once I've caught up with him in person.
The only one I'm going to mark off as done at the moment, is write a good CV. I had to a while back when I joined a temp agency, and although it's not perfect, it's not bad. So yep, that's my first of the 40 done!
My list progress:
1/ Say yes more
2/ Take up running
3/ Do a skydive
4/ Run a marathon
5/ Have my own dog
6/ See New Order live
7/ Buy a car

| I've started running! |
[May. 22nd, 2006|07:33 pm] |
Well, having written out the list last night, I've already started number 2 (running). I didn't really plan to start yet, but I thought why not? I ran part of the way to the bus stop this morning. Then when I got back from campus, I went out for another run, and actually went much further than I'd planned to. I'm unfit, but maybe not quite as unfit as I thought I was. Took me a little while to recover once I got back, but that was to be expected. I even managed to do 15 press ups once I got back, so I've not totally lost all my strength either.
Meant to go for a run first thing this morning actually, but I hardly slept last night at all, so slept right through my alarms. I'm sure I switch them off in my sleep now, I seem to hardly ever remember waking up on the first one these days! Think I might run again this evening, I felt pretty sleepy when I got back this afternoon, so if it can help me nod off then I'll be a very happy guy.
So I'm pretty pleased with myself really, I just hope I can keep it up.
Oh, and I may get a chance to fulfill number 4 later this year too, New Order have just announced a UK tour for October. Thing is, I've no idea what I'll be doing, or where the hell I'll be living in five months' time! |

I'm really bored, so thought I'd see if I come up with a list of things I'd like to do at some point in my life (both far and near future). Then it'd be cool to look back and see which I've achieved. [EDIT: Okay, I've found a cool website (43 things) that lets you list these, so they're all on here also] So, things i'd really like to achieve:
1/ Say yes more
2/ Take up running
3/ Do a skydive
4/ Run a marathon
5/ Have my own dog
6/ See New Order live
7/ Buy a car
8/ Learn the mechanics of a car 9/ Take up Karate

Some of these things I can achieve in a matter of months, others I'm going to have to work on a bit. And some of them are very amibitious, but if I put my mind to them I know I can do them.
I'll come back to this list when I can, and when I achieve any of these. |
